Support Your Local Fishing Tackle Shop Andrew urges all anglers to use their local tackle shop whenever possible I grew up in a small village with a few fishing ponds which catered well for kids. The thing was, there were no fishing tackle shops within easy reach of the village, so as a teenager it was always a case of "Get what you can, when you can", when the chance of a lift to a tackle shop arose! I'd been fishing for 20 years before I finally had a tackle shop in the village I live, and now that there is one I don't want to lose it! The tackle market is a different place to when I was kid, mainly because of the internet. Whilst there are thousands of bargains available out there from the major players, the advantages of having a small, local tackle and bait supplier cannot be overstated. One cannot order a last-minute pint of maggots from the internet, or replace that packet of hooks you realise you're without, just as you're leaving the house! Yes, it can be invaluable to go into a large shop and pick up 10 different rods to compare before you commit to that big spend, but for everyday items from line to floats to bait, I urge you to use your local tackle shop. The more money you spend closer to home, the greater the chance you'll still have a tackle shop close to home, for years to come. Other advantages of using your local tackle shop on a regular basis come through being recognised by the staff. Regular customers are more likely to be trusted with information on hot venues, pegs, tactics, etc. in the local area. If other anglers have recommended a new product, or something which is working well for them, you're more likely to be privy to that too. No-one speaks to more anglers on a day-to-day basis than someone working in a tackle shop, so they hear more anglers opinions too! Visit regularly enough and spend enough money, and you may even get the odd discount or other perk too. So, next time you're on the lookout for some new tackle or bait, pop into your local tackle shop and see if it's something they can supply. Before I get off my soap-box, here's an idea I've had to promote MY local tackle shops. I put their contact details on here, people search on Google for tackle shops in their area, up pops my website with their contact details which may otherwise be more difficult to find (That's the idea anyway!). The first two listings are the shops I use most often; one is closer to work, the other closer to home. They both sell slightly different brands and items, and both are friendly and extremely helpful to me, so please take this as a personal recommendation from me. The contact details below are, to the best of my knowledge, up-to-date. The rest of the tackle shops listed here are ones I've visited in the past at some point, whose main business is done from people visiting their store, rather than by mail order or via the internet. I hope you find the information here useful. Andrew |
