Charity Fundraiser Kev Allen

Kev organised a charity fishing match to help raise funds to support breast cancer care - and a total of 228 anglers turned out for the match held at Lindholme Lakes on 2nd May.

Dedicated angler Kev Allen has helped raise lots of cash for worthwhile charities - here's his story, in his own words...

Kev says: I did have over 300 names, so there were a few no shows, the event raised £5,118, a massive amount to be handed over to the charity. This cause is so very special to me, as my wife was told she had breast cancer 4 years ago now, and I have no doubt in my mind they saved her life, this is my way of putting something back.
The match was advertised in every angling magazine I could get it in - and on several internet fishing sites such as angling times forum, total fishing, talk angling, maggot drowners, Yorkshirefishing.net and of course AnglersToday, to name but a few .
Neil Grantham who owns the fishery had donated the pegs at half price for this and for that I thank him, this event would not run without the help of Neil and Bev.

The weather could not have been better for the event, it was basked in glorious sunshine though a little breezy. we had a rolling draw to help get anglers to their pegs a lot quicker, and this worked very well indeed. Top anglers at the event included Alan Scotthorne and Sandra Scotthorne, Paul Yates, Steve Rothery and Rob Hitchens.

Winner...
The winner of the match was Tim Hayes of Derbyshire who weighed in a massive 131-12 all on meat fished not further out than 4 mtrs from the bank, from peg 54 on the Laurels.

The lakes fished hard on the day, as you would expect with that amount of anglers taking to the banks, but there was still a few very good weights coming out, the match was made a lot fairer by paying out only section wins, this meant in effect you were only fishing against 10 anglers, so it brought the field closer together.

The Bonsai was always going to be favourite, but it wasn't to be the case as the Laurels produced the winning weight. Tim said after the match that he had really struggled for the first couple hours, but tried the inside line on meat and it was a fish every put in after that. He received his section win money £75 the match winners bucket containing about £80 and a trophy donated by GBA Grimsby.

My section was the first to weigh in and I was fairly confident with the few fish I'd caught of being in with a chance of a section win, as I couldn't see many other catching around me. I'd had a carp about 6lb and some very nice chub, some F1's and the odd trout. I weighed in 17lb-12oz and did win the section, all on pellet.

Very many thanks...
I must thank the following people and companies for their help with the prizes, everything was greatly appreciated.
