Idyllic fishing in French countryside

The lake (approx 2 acres) and several acres of woodland adjoining our property were purchased in 2005. Formerly an old quarry where 70-80 years ago the operator quarried for 'Terre Blanch" as used by the pharmaceutical and beauty products market. The workings were abandoned due to the underground streams flooding the excavation - much to the present owners benefit, as spring-fed lakes are a 'must have' for fish growth and welfare.

Talking of fish...we have 'lean, long wildies', mirrors, commons and leathers, all 'proper' fish, not overweight, unfit specimens as seen in some of the angling press. All the fish are in superb fighting-fit condition, guaranteed to put a bend in your rod and a smile on your face.

The lake is up to 30 ft deep and has a native population of carp, tench, perch and roach.
It has been re-stocked with two tonnes of carp from 7lb to 45lb, tench upto 7lb and a few pike.

Superb Surroundings
You can fish in complete tranquility, totally surrounded by wildlife.
For the bird watcher it's an idyllic place - with the opportunity to view woodpeckers, kingfishers and many other species in their own unspoiled habitat. There are also deer and a large variety of other wild life to be discovered.

It's a delightful, special place, our pictures do not do it justice.

Constant maintenance and upgrading
We've just finished landscaping the pathway all the way around the lake, making access easier and creating many more delightful fishing areas.

Only a small number of guests who stay at Maquignon are allowed to fish this lake, it's only for the experienced angler and children must not be left alone by the lake due to its isolation and depth of water.

We don't allow all-male drinking parties on the site, instead we concentrate on providing a family-orientated holiday with excellent accommodation and facilities. There's even a swimming pool for the family to enjoy while the anglers goes fishing!
