Practice makes perfect for juniors

On Saturday we went to watch the Worksop Juniors on their practice match at Hallcroft fisheries where the conditions were far from ideal.
But what impressed us was not only the standard of fishing from the youngsters, but also the dedication of the coaches who offered continuous support and advice.
Worksop has always excelled at a national level and this can only be attributed to the time and effort put in by this group of individuals who freely give their time and knowledge.
We are happy to report that DTH engineering has given them sponsorship for yet another year, but this only goes to meet part of the cost and they are reliant on their own fundraising efforts.
One of which is tonight at the Innings on Prospect where they are holding a race night starting at 7.30pm.
Results from the Hallcroft match were as follows: Cadets – J. Wilde (4lb 8oz), J. Dye (2lb 13oz), A. Gardener (1lb 14oz).
Juniors – B. Smith (12lb 6oz), D. Harding (11lb 2oz), M. Scott (5lb 10oz).
Intermediates – P. Goulding (12lb 8oz), C. Taylor (7lb 1oz). Anyone wishing to join the cadets should ring Darren on 01302 721434.

Through the Grapevine

Worksop United’s first club match is on Sunday 8th May at Bracebridge. Anyone wanting to fish please contact Malc.
A fundraiser for the Air Ambulance service will take place at South Clifton on the tidal Trent on Sunday 19th June. Entry fee is £15 all in. Please contact R. Moses on 01724 857882.
We can confirm that the only stretch of Worksop Association canal open in Retford is from West Retford Bridge to Whit Sunday Pie Lock.
The remaining water from Whit Sunday Pie Lock to Drakeholes basin will be closed until 16th June.
Derek Brown of Worksop AA has reported several Rainbow Trout being caught in the boatyard in Retford town centre and also several good barbel have been caught on the High School length.
On the beach front Jonny B has reported a mixed bag of flat fish including two sole off Skipsea Beach on evening tide which have not been caught in this area to my knowledge for many years.
