Grafton mourns loss of angling stalwart Clarke

We start this week with some sad news from our friends at the Grafton Angling Association.
It is with deep regret that the committee have to report the death of their match booking secretary, Rod Clarke who died in Inverness Hospital after a very short illness.

Friend and fellow Grafton member Glyn Williams said: “Rod was a remarkable individual who over the past few years had made many friends within the angling fraternity in his capacity as match booking secretary, being the stalwart of the well-organised Grafton Summer and Winter League events that were staged on the Chesterfield Canal here at Worksop.”
“He was a good servant to our club having helped to keep the name of the Grafton’s holdings of the Chesterfield Canal at the forefront of match angling.”
“As his proposer into the club I feel that we have not only lost a good club member but we have lost a very dear friend as well, he will be sadly missed by all of those who had the pleasure of meeting him.”
“We would like to add our condolences to all Rod’s family and friends – he will be missed by all.”

On a change of tack, we went to the Chatsworth Angling fair on Saturday which, to be absolutely honest, was a bit of a let down when compared to other years.
There seemed to be fewer trade stands and demonstrations this year although the fluff chuckers were well represented.
The numbers of visitors also seemed to be down but this may have had something to do with the FA Cup final being on the same day.
We did, however, get the chance to have a lengthy chat with Ian Heaps and Bobb Nudd who asked us if we could get Shaun (superstar) Storey’s autograph as they are both avid fans and have learnt a lot from his now famous tips in this column – but unfortunately we had to disappoint them.

As predicted we are getting increasing numbers of match reports and it is nice to see that we are starting to get a response from the Dinnington and Anston area. Keep them coming in.

Through the Grapevine

We are pleased to report that the Riverside Fishery at Scrooby Tops has finally found its form and is returning good match and pleasure weights.
There are a number of open matches at this venue on Thursday evenings. The draw is at 5pm and fishing from 5.45pm until 8.45pm at £8 all-in, plus golden peg.
Veterans matches are on Fridays for aged 50 and over with the draw at 9am, £8 all-in and open matches on Saturdays are drawn at 9am, £10 all in.

Roger Green has reported that Sandhills is now hitting top form with skimmers and big bream from pegs 32 to 39 and tench chub and skimmers coming off pegs 5 to 9 with odd Carp showing to 4lb.

We would also like to congratulate young Matt Godfrey in qualifying to fish for the England Juniors in the world championships to be fished in Serbia on a Tributary off the River Danube from 17th July to the 25th July.
