Juniors claim national title.

Jubilant Worksop junior anglers clinched the National Junior Angling Association Knockout Final title by just one point over the weekend.
Fishing at the Mavers Larford Lake complex near Stourbridge, they saw off the challenge of runners-up Farnborough and third placed Barnsley.
To add to this incredible achievement, the top two spots in the reserve match were also secured by Worksop juniors.
It meant the whole squad – Gavin Leversidge, Ben Smith, Danny Harding, Matt Godfrey, Jason Goulding, Mick Scott, Lewis Hudson, Kyle Moore, Mark Playfoot, Thomas Davenport, Robert Stocks and Nile Lilley – all put in creditable performances with some really impressive weights.
Coach Glen Foulds said: “I am really proud of all the lads – they are a fantastic bunch and got their just rewards for all their time and effort.”
“This proves that Worksop have the best set of young anglers in the country yet again.”
The event saw the national final fished on the specimen lake and reserve team individual match held on the match lake.
It featured the top teams from all over England who had qualified through various local knockout stages – meaning all the junior angling elite were present.
The Worksop squad, under the guidance of team manager Foulds, had been well prepared with practice sessions and team meetings to plan tactics.
It was that attention to detail that summed up the whole attitude of the Worksop squad.
A gloriously sunny day was the setting for the majority of the match and though Worksop had a less than favourable draw, they were determined to stick to the team tactics.
The reserve match began half an hour prior to the main team event and all anglers were catching significant numbers of carp at a constant rate.
As a result, it was extremely frustrating when the whistle blew on the specimen lake to find that the going was a lot harder.
But each Worksop angler battled it out and slowly but surely the fish began to come.
By the time the whistle blew to end the match, rumours had started to circulate that Farnborough had won the match easily.
In fact, there was only one point separating the top three teams, and when it was announced that Barnsley (23 points) had been placed third, everyone assumed that Worksop were second.
So Worksop were deliriously happy when it was announced that Farnborough (also 23) were runners-up and it was they who were the new British champions with 22 points.
To celebrate, the team ‘baptised’ manager Foulds in the time-honoured tradition of throwing him into the match lake.
Angling correspondent Roger Stocks said: “There was a feeling of complete euphoria among all of us who had travelled to watch the event.”
“It is junior angling’s equivalent to the FA Cup or the Ashes and it is a massive achievement.”
In the individual event, Harding took third and in the reserves match Hudson won (21.4 kg) and Playfoot was second (19.1kg).
