Popular matches at Sandhill Lake

IT was a busy time at Sandhill Lake as two popular events took place last week.
The first was Tuesday’s Worksop and District Anglers’ Association Bassetlaw Festival OAPs match where, despite the very hot weather, the 20 entrants enjoyed a good days sport.
Jack Perry was the top rod with 12lb 12oz from peg 58 with Bob Fisher (8lb 12oz, peg 64) second and Tom Billam (7lb 12oz, peg 76) third, all using the feeder method.
President of WDAA, Mick Pogson, would like to thank head of parks David Lindley and his assistant John Foster for presenting the prizes and also the competitors for making it a memorable day.

The second event was the juvenile matches held on Friday night where Worksop’s tackle dealers Ken Ward, Worksop Angling Supplies and Gateford Angling Supplies came up trumps again with their donations of prizes for the competitors.
Our thanks must also go out to organisers Gary and Doreen Butt, Mick Pogson and Glyn Williams for their sterling efforts.
The fishing was a little hard, but this did not deter from the fun.
Top weights in the under 13s were Devon Whitworth (2lb 15oz, peg 77), Kelsa Moore (1lb 4oz, peg 72) and Danny Parkin (8oz, peg 74).
In the under 16s Josh Wilde took top spot with 2lb 12oz from peg 68, followed by Ryan Boulton (1lb 10oz, peg 64) and Kyle Moore (1lb 8oz, peg 64). Well done everyone who fished on the night.

Are there any anglers out there with time on their hands? Mencap are looking for volunteers who would be prepared to support someone with mild learning disabilities to fish local waters.

Coastal reports the catches of bass continue throughout all of the Holderness area with up to 12 fish per rod being the norm.
The mackerel are now showing and small boats off Bridlington are catching quality cod to 7lb.
Phil Bradley, Keith Hespin together with half a dozen friends had a weekend trip to the Isle of Whithorn on the West Coast of Scotland where they enjoyed great sport with wrasse, mackerel, pollock and dogfish (we still think it’s a hell of a way to travel for two days’ sport).

The Grafton AA British waterways next juvenile match is Friday 29th July on the John Shaw’s section of the Chesterfield Canal.
Tickets are £2 and are available from Ken Wards Sports. Draw takes place in the Lock Keeper car park at 5pm and fishing is 6-9pm.

Worksop United’s next two matches will take place at Holme Marsh on the 31st July and Carr Vale on 7th August. Can members please register asap.
