Anglers mourn loss of stalwart

It is with deep regret that we heard the news of the untimely passing away of local angling stalwart Paul Rushton.
Paul was 45 years old and was an angler of many years experience and was assistant secretary of Worksop United.
He will be sadly missed by many of the local angling community and former columnist Glyn Williams has paid tribute to the untiring work he did including helping organise the ladies national this year on the Chesterfield Canal.
Our condolences go out to all his family and friends.
On a lighter note, the first match of Worksop and District Anglers’ Association Triathlon series for the juniors and cadets took place last Saturday on the High School length of the Chesterfield Canal at Retford.
It was held in conditions that can only be described as awful as heavy rain fell for the full duration of the match.
This did not deter some fine performances from all of the 21 competitors taking part though.
Top spot in the under 16 age group went to Lewis Hudson who pole fished worm and caster on peg 1 to put a creditable 25lb 4oz of chub and bream on the scales.
Nile Lilley used the same tactics on peg 18 to net 16lb 4½oz for second with Jake Midgley third on peg 31 with 10lb 8oz.
In the under 12 age group ‘bream queen’ Devon Whitworth landed a fine net of bream and chub weighing 25lb 1oz to take first place on peg 26.
Hannah Godfrey made it a one-two for the girls with 6lb 10oz from peg 29 and Danny Parkin netted 3lb 12oz off peg 31.
