Slim pickings on Lodge Farm visit

With time on our hands due to the junior match at Loughborough being cancelled last weekend, we decided to visit some commercial waters to see if any local anglers were enjoying decent sport.
Over at Lodge Farm two Worksop lads Steve Waddington and Paul Edmond were fishing Field Pond for the first time and were catching carp and skimmers to 1½lb on waggler fished sweetcorn at 10 metres.
The lads informed us that they usually fish Lily Pond and Long Island where they enjoy a level of success and are great fans of the Scrooby venue.
In damp and dreary conditions, most anglers were struggling compared to the reports of catches we have been receiving.
Anglers were connecting with fish but the writing is on the wall now that summer is all but over. Tactics are having to change as the fishing gets harder.
Even though the geese are heading south, one bit of news did brighten our day.
As rumour has it Ian ‘Bubba’ Kettlewell of Bulldog Barbers is coming out of retirement and dusting off the tackle after a sustained lay off.
Many of you will know Ian and will look forward to his friendly banter.
As the end of the summer season approaches any contributions of pleasure nets and form guides would be appreciated.

Derek over at Harlesthorpe Dam, Clowne informs us that local rod Terry Renshaw had a mixed net weighing 45lb taken on pole fished pellet from near the boathouse.
John Henwood had numerous carp to 15lb plus and bream to 6lb taken trigger ice boilies from the bank head with Nigel Ward taking a mixed bag of 35lb from the small pond on pole fished pellet and corn.
Mick Pogson of Worksop Piscatorials informs us that there is a change of venue for their next match on Sunday 25th September.
It will not be on the River Trent but on the high school length of the Chesterfield Canal, pegs 1 to 25.
Draw in the usual lay-by at 8.30am and any members interested in fishing should contact Ivor Jones asap.
The second leg of the Triathlon is to take place tomorrow on Sandhill Lake, draw is at 9.30am, fish 11am to 3pm
Small boats off Bridlington are landing significant catches of quality cod to 20lb plus taken on pirk and muppet and ling to 15lb taken on mackerel flapper.
There are still significant catches of bass from the beaches all along the east coast particularly from the Huttoft area south of the Humber taken on a variety of baits.
We would like to wish the young anglers representing the Portland and Valley schools in next Friday’s schools nationals at the Glebe fishery in Leicestershire the very best of luck.
