More success for Worksop juniors

Last Friday saw us supporting Portland and Valley Schools down at the Glebe Fishery, Mallory Park at the 33rd British Schools Championship.
It is (to the best of our knowledge) the longest running sponsorship deal in fishing with the Shakespear tackle company giving continuous support for the whole event.
Worksop was well represented with three teams – one from Valley school and two from Portland – and these 24 young anglers did us proud yet again on a day when it rained heavily and constantly for the duration of the match.
In all the competitions we have covered, we have never witnessed such a close finish – just one point separating the top three.
Unfortunately, Portland A had to settle for runners-up spot this year after coming a close second. Valley came sixth and Portland B ninth.
However, on an individual basis, Worksop has another British champion with Thomas Davenport winning the under 14s title and Kyle Moore runner-up.
It is also worth noting that Worksop had three out of the top five places on the day.

We would also like to recognise the hard work put in by the team coaches, school staff and individual supporters on the day.
They were, most notably, John Hammond of Valley, Ken Stevenson and Jane Pickersgill of Portland and Glyn Williams and Ian Pickersgill, who spent the day in the pouring rain offering advice and encouragement to all the Worksop competitors.
