Triathlon event is success

Last Thursday evening saw us invited to one of the highlights of the local angling calendar, the junior triathlon presentation at the Innings, Prospect Estate in Worksop.
With John Mitchell of the NFA and Alan and Sandra Scotthorne presenting the trophies and prizes - and Gary Butt the master of ceremonies - this was an evening to remember.
There was also an excellent buffet provided Steve Moor, the Innings landlord, and his staff.
The winners on the night were as follows.
Under 12s: First - Devon Whitworth (26 points), second - Hannah Godfrey (25), third - Ryan Williamson (17). Devon also won the under 12s aggregate trophy with a new record of 29lb 14oz.
Under 16s: First - Mick Scott (53 points), second - Nile Lilley (49), third - Reece Nicholson (45). Mick also took the aggregate trophy with 26lb 5oz.
A big thank you must go to Garry and Doreen Butt for running such a fine event and a special thanks to Tommy Preen, for all his help on the three matches, Terry Evans and Glyn Williams.

Sherwood Forest Round-up
Despite it being in November, over 50lb is needed to win open matches on the Holmedale lake with Neil Wilkinson winning Sunday's match from peg 50 with 71lb 8oz of carp to 7lb on pole and pellet fished 6m out.
Geoff Bennett won on Wednesday from the other end of the lake. Fishing peg 33 he fished the feeder to the lily pads and pole at 12m with pellet for carp to 9lb and a total of 61lb 12oz.
Matches are only run in winter on the Cavendish lake but Lee Paling's winning weight of 62lb 10oz is what you would expect in summer.
He fished pole and pellet at 14m and had a mixed net of carp to 5lb and bream to 2lb. This was backed up with weights of 42lb and 32lb.
Worksop's John Eves fished an impressive match on the Maunside on Saturday at peg 5.
He fished pole and bronze maggot up to the far bank for chub to a pound and five carp to 2lb to win with 52lb 6oz.
Pleasure fishing has been very good on all lakes, but with winter coming, it is likely you will need some maggots and worms, as well as pellets.

LAKESIDE ROUND-UP
Bridon AC visited the Ranskill venue on Saturday where Mick McCarthy was top rod with 7lb 15oz using pole-fished maggot from peg 29.
Nigel Wheatcroft took second place with a weight of 7lb 10oz from peg 30 with Adrian Pykett in third with 7lb 8oz from peg 32.
On Sunday, Tony Carter won ACL's match with 26lb 10oz, employing pole-fished caster.
Shaun Parker took the runner-up position with 16lb 9oz and Andy James weighed 9lb 1oz from peg 31 for third.
On the Carp Lake, John Vardy landed three fish, the best a common of 19lb 8oz from peg 6, with Martin Cochane landing two fish, the best a mirror of 18lb off peg 4.
Over on the trout lake, Dave Williams, of Worksop, netted 17 fish on various buzzers and floating line and Lawson Bedford bagged 10 fish on black spider and floating line.

LODGE FARM ROUND-UP
Vale AC fished the Signal Pond last Saturday where Paul Elliot won with a mixed bag of 32lb 10oz from peg 31 using pole-fished pellet.
Gary Hazelwood claimed second place with 10lb 12oz from peg 35 with Mick Rimmer weighing 10lb 2oz for third from peg 36.
On Sunday, Mick and John held another Winter Series Match on Lily pond where Ian Mellish weighed in 25lb 1oz using groundbait feeder with a maggot hookbait on peg 52 for first.
John Moore netted 15lb 2oz from peg 56 for second place with Lee Wilkes weighing 13lb 4oz for third from peg 70.
Bill informs us that despite the seasonal cold weather, tench are still being caught to 5lb to pole fished maggot on the top pond.
It was nice to see newcomers to the sport, Wayne and Thomas Brunt, get among the skimmers, carp and barbel last Saturday.

CLUB RESULTS
Members of the Greyhound AC visited Kiveton Hall last Saturday where they found the going hard on the bottom lake .
In-form, Alan Sargeson took the honours with a level 9lb of chub taken on the maggot feeder with Stevie Basset taking the runner-up position using pole and maggot and young Adam Jackson making up the frame with 3lb 3oz of carp and chub taken on the maggot feeder.
Worksop AA fished the fifth round of the Angling Times Winter League Trent Division on the Fossedyke Navigation last Sunday where they claimed second place behind Middy Matchmen.
They had three section winners on the day - Mark Pressley with 3lb 4oz, Gary Dodsworth with 4lb 5oz and Phil Turner with 4lb 1½oz.
The performance leaves the lads on top of the league with 11 points with the Diawa Trentmen on 13 and the Middy Matchmen on 14 points.
There is one more round to go to be fished on the Grafton Waters of the Chesterfield Canal.

THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
Roger Green informs us that pike are being caught to 27lb 10oz at Woodsetts on various deadbaits.
He also tells us that now the temperature has fallen he expects the silverfish to fall in to the deeper water where the pike will follow at both Woodsetts and Sandhills.
Roger also had an unexpected bonus - a 3lb 12oz eel on Sandhills - taken on a mackrel strip (almost beachcasting tactics he tells us). Thank you Roger for these reports.

There is to be an Open Practice Match for the Angling Times Winter League taking place on the John Shaw's and Tigers Den lengths of the Chesterfield Canal on 20th November.
