Guardian charity match is popular

The last pegs for the Guardian Open Charity Match have all been taken with the event, that will raise money for the Guardian Tsunami appeal, set to take place tomorrow.

Such has been the demand that Stuart Chris and myself (Roger) have given up our pegs to enable another three competitors the opportunity to fish.

To those of you who have been ringing up this last week we are sorry to have to disappoint you, but, if you are not able to fish on the day, why not support those who have been fortunate to secure a peg?

Although nothing associated with fishing is guaranteed, the weather forecast looks promising and we should be in for a good day’s competition.

As well as the fantastic support we are getting from the local tackle dealers,we have had generous donations from local businesses and individuals.

The most notable are from Rob at Pickwicks, Steve at the Innings, Rob from Lindrick Golf Club pro shop, the ladies and gents at Lindrick, the Artisans and Ian Lilley who has done a sterling job securing most of the prizes.

We will see you all tomorrow and hope to raise plenty of money for this good cause and also enjoy ourselves with a few fish.

Worksop's very own Ken Stephenson was nominated for Coach of the Year in the Notts Sports Review of the Year.
This is thought to be the first time an angling coach has been nominated but we were sorry to hear that he was overlooked on this occasion.
Portland School also received a nomination for the Junior Team of the Year following their achievements in the School’s National finals. Better luck next year!

We couldn't help but notice that at the recent Bassetlaw Sports Awards anglers were not represented at all! Never mind, we hope to give you the recognition you deserve.

Linda at Lakeside tells us that the best catch on the Carp Lake last week was for Tim Watts of Maltby who took three fish, the best a 21lb 6oz common carp, off peg six using small boilies.
Also the Trout Lake is fishing exceptionally well at the moment with Lawson Bedford of Rotherham taking 20 fish on black buzzers on floating line. Tom Morton from Hucknall had 27 fish on segmented bloodworm with floating line.
The price is a very reasonable £7 catch and release with £11 for two fish and catch and release the rest of the day.
This is a good venue for beginners to learn fly fishing with helpful hints and advice from the staff. For more information you can call them on 01777 818524.
