Angler Joan will be sadly missed

We start our column with some sad news this week.

We were sorry to hear the news of the death of Joan Gray, aged 82.

As well as being known to generations of anglers over the years for her work in her sons Ken Wards Sport Shop, she was also an accomplished angler who participated at both local and national level.

There is more than a little irony in the fact that over the years she has had to travel all over the country to fish for Worksop Ladies and this year the Ladies Nationals are to be fished in her own back yard on the Chesterfield Canal.

We would like to extend our sympathy and to the rest of the family in this difficult time.

Through the Grapevine

Malc from Worksop United has asked us to inform members that the subs deadline has been extended to the 8th February.

We have heard unconfirmed reports that the Environment Agency has electro fished the Grafton Stretch of the canal to do a fish count.
Reports of carp up to 22lb are being spotted and numerous quantities of quality chub bream roach and other silver fish prove what a quality venue we have on our doorstep.

Linda from Lakeside tells us that the Trout Lake is still fishing exceptionally well with Ken Ellis from Worksop taking six fish with buzzards on floating line. John Stubbs had 18 fish on the same method.
Also the strip lakes are fishing very well with weights of 30lb-plus for pleasure anglers. For more information you can telephone 01777 818524
